New Haven artist Silas Finch, whose work is on view in Keator Gallery, led several classes in hands-on workshops last week to stretch the bounds of their normal activities. The Digital Photography classes flattened spoons with a hammer on an anvil and then mounted photos on the oval head. Eighth grade students in Wood Art wove various materials such as string, yarn, wire, and leather onto empty wooden picture frames to form abstract designs. The students enjoyed the opportunity to learn and work with Silas, and the opportunity to come away from the experience with a unique piece of art they made themselves.
