Reunion took place on June 10-11 this year for classes ending in 1 and 6, with over 250 alumni/ae and guests returning to campus. Alumni/ae attended a luncheon in Heath Commons, took campus tours, attended special programs including a celebration of the Walter Camp Athletic Center and played in sports games.

For many alums, Reunion began on Friday, June 10 with class-organized parties at local restaurants and homes. School-sponsored events began on Saturday with a 50th Reunion breakfast, a luncheon in Heath Commons, daytime athletic competitions, campus tours, a special student panel discussion of life at Hopkins, children's programs including a magic show and a cookout. This year there were four special programs for alumni/ae during the day. Nicky Dawidoff '81 led a discussion of his book, "The Crowd Seems Happy: A Story of Love and Madness in an American Family," his prizewinning memoir of his childhood in New Haven. Alums Irwin Gelman '76, PhD and James Goldenring '76, PHD led an informative discussion, "Cancer Care: Hope Springs Eternal," and current faculty members Errol Saunders and Donna Fasano also presented group discussions on New Haven History and Oliver Twist, respectively.

Many alums attended the Luncheon in Heath Commons where they heard from President of the Committee of Trustees, David I. Newton '67 HGS and Head of School Barbara Riley about the current state of the School. The student a cappella groups Spirens and Triple Trio performed for the luncheon to the delight of all, as alumni/ae enjoyed a delicious buffet.

Later in the afternoon, a celebration of the Walter Camp Athletic Center took place in the gym, commemorating 25 years since the opening of the building. David Newton, Barbara Riley, former President of the Committee of Trustees Paul H. Johnson and current Director of Athletics Tom Parr addressed a crowd of a hundred alums and former faculty and coaches, about the history of the building and its impact on the athletic program at Hopkins. To learn more about the Walter Camp Athletic Center, see the article in the Spring 2011 issue of Views from the Hill, an issue dedicated to Hopkins Athletics.

As the daytime activities came to a close, more Reunion alumni/ae arrived on campus for the evening's cocktail hour and dinner under the tent. During dinner, a group of 11 alumni, all former Harmonaires, took to the stage to sing a spirited set of classics, the "make-out" songs of their Hopkins years. After three songs, the current student Harmonaires joined the alums to sing the Hopkins Fight Song. We thank the past and present Harmonaires for their hard work in practicing and bringing their talented voices to the Reunion dinner.

Despite the persistent rainy weather throughout the day, it was a successful and joyful Reunion in which hundreds of alums returned to Hopkins, to reconnect with each other and catch up on the Hill.
