Hopkins places 1st at the CT Science Olympiad!

Two teams of Hopkins students participated in the 2012 CT Science Olympiad on March 31, cumulatively winning 7 gold, 7 silver and 2 bronze medals. Team A won 1st place and will travel to the National Championship in May.
Hopkins is proud to have a large number of talented students enthusiastic about science participate in the Science Olympiad every year. This year 35 students took part in the CT Division C Science Olympiad on March 31, 2012 at the University of Connecticut. Hopkins' Team A won first place in the state, and between teams A & B, Hopkins took home 7 gold medals (in events such as “Sounds of Music” and Forensics), 7 silver medals (in events such as Forestry and Protein Modeling) and 2 bronze medals (in Thermodynamics and Dynamic Planet).

Science Olympiad initially involves about 2 million students annually in grades K-12, with 6,000 teams in grades six through 12 actively competing in regional, state and the national tournament. The mission of the program is to enhance the quality of science education, to create a passion for science among young people and to reward both students and teachers for academic achievement.

Team A plus some alternates will travel to the 28th annual Science Olympiad National Tournament taking place May 18–19, 2012 at the University of Central Florida. Our Hopkins team will compete in more than two dozen events against 119 other teams of champions from across the country. Events will include the topics of astronomy, tower building, chemistry, computing and ecology among many others.

At assembly on Monday, April 2th the two teams announced their accomplishments at assembly and Team A dedicated their first place trophy to their Faculty advisors, Jen Stauffer and Sarah Leite.

Congratulations to both teams and good luck to Team A in Florida next month!
