Sixteen Hopkins 11th and 12th grade physics students were part of the 2012 American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) Physics Bowl in March. More than 5,000 students from 250+ schools across the United States and Canada as well as schools in China and Italy participated. The Physics Bowl is a challenging, 45-minute written exam. Students are assessed both individually and as a team.
All sixteen Hopkins participants fared quite well. The top 5 scorers in our Hopkins Division 2 Team (composed of 2nd year physics students) collectively earned a first place regional ranking for Hopkins. This remarkable group is composed of Max Ying, Matt Hodel, Lucian Wang, Ashley Meng, and Yuan He. Max Ying earned additional recognition by having the highest Division 2 score in the region. Hopkins' region includes six states: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont.
The AAPT is acknowledging the aforementioned students with prizes. Jen Stauffer, science department chair and Hopkins' physics bowl coordinator, will receive a Vernier voucher for science equipment for her department.
Hopkins is a private middle school and high school for grades 7-12. Located on a campus overlooking New Haven, CT, the School takes pride in its intellectually curious students as well as its dedicated faculty and staff.
