On Thursday, January 3, many recent graduates of Hopkins returned to campus for the Young Alumni/ae Gathering in Heath Commons. Some students arrived earlier in the day to visit classes and teachers, including siblings Alex '11 and Allison '12 Siegenfeld who visited Mrs. Hwang's Chinese classes.
Allison, a freshman at the University of Pennsylvania, is taking Chinese at the junior level at school. She told the class that it is a lot of work but she is having fun and enjoying it as well. Her class is a culture oriented class in addition to language learning. She feels that Hopkins prepared her well for the transition to college. She advised Mrs. Hwang's class that lots of practice is the key to success in learning a language. And she also shared that she felt fortunate to have been taught by two wonderful Chinese teachers at Hopkins.
Mrs. Hwang observed that Alex's speaking in Chinese remains at an excellent level, although he is not taking Chinese currently at MIT. He is planning on a research interim in Taiwan where Chinese is spoken this summer. Alex has recently switched his area of study from chemistry to physics.
Please check back next week for photos from the Young Alumni/ae Gathering.
