Last week, Hopkins alumni/ae were invited to attend two events in California, in Palo Alto and Los Angeles.
Hopkins alumni/ae in the San Francisco bay area gathered in Palo Alto for a fun evening, including good food, fond reminiscences, some networking and, most of all, lots of Hopkins conversation. With so many in the start-up business, that became the prevailing theme in addition to the memories from Hopkins, Day Prospect Hill and New Haven in general. Head of School, Barbara Riley spoke with the group about life at Hopkins today, and, along with Palo Alto-based Trustees Eric Kutcher '92 and Glenn Havlicek P'10, '06, was able to speak about the current priorities of the School and remind everyone what makes Hopkins, Hopkins.
Our west coast alumni/ae receptions ended in Los Angeles with an incredible and very special tour of the Space Shuttle Endeavour Exhibit led by Aerospace Science Curator Dr. Kenneth E. Phillips at the California Science Center as arranged and hosted by Misha Body '98, Husbandry Manager for the Living Species Exhibit. Over 40 area alumni/ae, their spouses and even a few children were in attendance and all were delighted to see this remarkable display. The tour was followed by a reception on the campus of USC at Moreton Fig restaurant–outdoors and under a giant fig tree, a very long way from the cold weather that was hitting back at Hopkins. All-in-all it was great fun and the energy and enthusiasm of our west coast alumni/ae was electric, with great connections made all around.
Thanks to all of those alumni/ae who joined us in Portland, Palo Alto and Los Angeles, keep an eye on the Hopkins Highlights and the web site for a listing of future gatherings.
