On Friday, February 22, Hopkins was honored to have John Lobon speak at assembly. Mr. Lobon was invited to speak by SURE (Students United for Racial Equality) as a program to celebrate Black History Month.

Mr. Lobon is one of the "Syracuse 8," a group of African-American athletes at Syracuse University who boycotted the 1970 football season in an effort to demand change and promote racial equality within the University Football program. Mr. Lobon and the "Syracuse 8" took on this incredible task knowing full well it would dash any hopes of furthering their careers in football and the NFL.

Hopkins student Matthew Iannone '14 introduced Mr. Lobon to assembly. Mr. Lobon spoke to the School about the difficulty he faced at Syracuse and that his story is still relevant today. Mr. Lobon's message and story are best heard first-hand, please see the video attached.
