Hopkins went up against powerhouse Loomis Chaffee today and played a fantastic game. Loomis came into the game with an undefeated record of 4-0 with wins over Hotchkiss, Choate, Taft, and Sacred Heart, all strong lacrosse schools. Our girls welcomed the challenge of going up against a very strong team and played hard from start to finish. Loomis had nearly flawless stick skills and moved the ball quickly and efficiently. On defense we had trouble getting our sticks in front of cutters, but we completely shut down any attempts they made to drive to goal. After the game, the Loomis coach approached me to tell me how impressed she was with our defense. Her girls just couldn't get past our double teams and were forced to work hard for every goal. When we had the ball on attack, Loomis was great at double and triple teaming the ball. We got flustered a few times, but moved the ball well and got some good shots off. Frankie DeLavis put her whole being into playing this game and came out with two terrific goals. Her intensity was inspiring to the rest of us. Lucia Simpson, back from a long and frustrating injury, added the other goal off of a terrific pass from Abbe Grimes.
I'm proud of how the team played this game. They stepped up to our toughest competition and proved they can play with the best. This game was great practice for some of the tough games coming up, including Miss Porter's on Saturday and Choate a week from Monday.
