On Saturday March 7, 2015, The Hopkins MathCounts team participated in the first locally sponsored middle school math competition of this kind. The event was a MathCounts style competition for students who did not qualify for the State level competition (Hopkins has 7 students who will compete at the state level next Saturday.)

Four schools participated: North Haven Middle School, Hamden Hall, Foote and Hopkins and a total of 33 students applied their knowledge, logic and problem solving skills in Sprint, Target and Team rounds throughout the morning. Foote School's MathCount's coach, Andrew Metrick, generously hosted and organized the event and did a fine job of running the competition.

Hopkins' team of four, Corinne Evans '20, Veronica Yarovinsky '20, Theodore Tellides '19, and Kadin Zhang '20 won First Place Team for total combined scores and also won the Team Countdown Round. Hopkins' individual participant, Burton Lyng-Olsen '20 won the event outright, scoring the highest individual score of the day. Burton also won second place in the Individual Countdown Round. Congratulations to all of them!
