On Wednesday, May 21, Upper Heath Commons was transformed into the Senior Project Fair. 42 seniors were eager to talk about their individual passions, and share the projects they spent six weeks researching, building, writing, baking, sewing, recording, and volunteering on, among other things!
This year's projects included:
Annika Aslanian – Learning to Sew (Behind the seams!)
For my project, I taught myself the basics of sewing. I began by learning simple hand stitches and learning how to use a sewing machine. I then followed patterns to make a top and a pair of pants and then by the end I was able to make my own pattern to design a top!
Davis Bachner – Analog Stethoscope Amplifier
This analog stethoscope amplifier enhances the sounds of a heartbeat or lung sounds by boosting the audio signal picked up by a stethoscope’s diaphram. It uses only discrete components to amplify sounds for clearer listening through a standard stethoscope.
Claire Banks & Violet Wich – Coaching Junior School Lacrosse
Every week during J school athletics, Violet and I went to the practices. We planned 2-3 practices a week and worked along side Lauren Riechart, the head coach. We then moved to games, each game gaining a bit more of a voice. Every practice, we filled out a journal. Every week we recorded a video and made a montage. Claire and I served as assistant coaches for the junior school girls lacrosse team this spring. We spent every D block on the turf with the girls and coached every game that we could attend. We worked alongside the head coach, Lauren Reichart, to formulate productive practice plans and make fitting game-time coaching decisions.
Rosa Bilston – Feast your Eyes
My senior project was an art book that studies how food tells narratives in different mediums. Every piece was inspired by some food item, either it was a visible depiction of them, or the food was used in the creation of the piece.
Nora Brock – Sustainability in Sewing
I learned to sew using sustainable fabrics from the goodwill bins and other thrift stores. I used my new skills to make a patchwork skirt!
Eva Carey – Loose-leaf Tea Recipe Book
I created a recipe book for loose-leaf tea blends. I designed each tea blend, prepped the ingredients, created 5 successful tea blends of varying flavor profiles, and wrote everything up into a little book. I made a Lemon and Orange Green Tea, a Raspberry Rose White Tea, a Cacao and Orange Pu-erh Tea, a Spiced Black Tea, and a Cocoa and Coconut Rooibos Tea.
Jacob Ceisler & Rohan Gottumukkalla – Robot Dog Parkour
For our senior project, we trained and deployed an AI model to perform parkour on a Unitree Go1 quadruped robot. We built a custom wooden parkour course and used reinforcement learning to teach the robot to navigate obstacles using real-time visual input from a camera. The project combined mechanical design, software integration with ROS, and machine learning deployment to push the limits of autonomous robotics.
Claire Corwin – Celebrity Memoirs
I read Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey, Shortest Way Home by Pete Buttigieg, and One Life by Megan Rapinoe and looked for unique advice or insight that you may not know about them from social media or seeing them on TV. I then took key parts from each book and turned it into a scrapbook. That way it's easy and accessible to get cool and unique information about each of the celebrities without actually reading the books.
Julia DiMiceli – A Coxswain's Crash Course
A manual for novice coxswains that gives them a basic overview/how-to of the many things they are responsible for, including vocab, docking, safety, race plans, recording review, and more. The hope is that this crash course can be reviewed before the coxswains go out on the water for the first time.
Rich Fearon & Sophie Stevens-Scanlan – Ski Making
Rich and I constructed one completed pair and one core pair of skis. We began by building molds then constructed each ski using poplar wood and tropical wood, steel edges, tip material, fiber glass, and top sheet. We spent almost all of our time in the workshop where we drew up our plans, created our pieces, and constructed our final products.
Marsden Fine – Senior Spring Athletics Highlight Reel & Fun Interviews
For my senior project, I created a highlight reel highlighting team camaraderie, standout moments, and fun interviews for seniors in spring sports at Hopkins. I was able to video 5 sports teams: Boys' Lacrosse, Girls' Lacrosse, Boys' Tennis, Girls' Tennis, and Track & Field. These videos capture memorable moments from games and off-field interactions, providing a keepsake for seniors and their families.
Burvee Franz – Recycling/Repurposing skateboard decks
For my senior project, I repurposed over 40 skateboard decks into functional wooden items. I spent many hours in the woodshop preparing the skateboard deck material, gluing up my individual projects, and finishing my tabletop with epoxy resin and polyurethane.
Albert Gan & Kyle Zhang – Chess Robot
We created a physical chess robot to play chess. This physical chess robot uses a chess engine that we coded and trained earlier. The robot features a touchscreen and camera for users to play against the robot.
Our project was a physical chess robot system. The 3D printed robot arm is controlled by multiple servo motors and includes a camera, all running on a Raspberry Pi. The underlying software includes a fully functioning chess engine which is of superhuman strength and computer vision components to identify pieces on the board.
Matthew Goos – Goos’ Melody
My project was learning how to play the guitar this spring. I learned the basic ins and outs while learning a handful of songs. I learned Creep by Radiohead Brazil by Declan McKenna Cigarette Daydreams by Cage the Elephant etc.
Asher Joseph – Drama in Diaspora: The Making of "PEACHY: a sorta chekhovian traumedy"
Drama in Diaspora: The Making of "PEACHY" is the culmination of an observership documenting the production process behind "PEACHY: a sorta chekhovian traumedy," directed by Dr. Shilarna Stokes at Yale University in April 2025. The play, inspired by Anton Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard," chronicles the trials of a Mexican-Indian family restaurant in a post-pandemic world with a special emphasis on intercultural communication. Drama in Diaspora specifically focuses on depictions of South Asian culture in the show, as well as in the larger western theatrical canon.
Layla Kenkare – Puzzle Project
I painted a scene from a family vacation onto a piece of wood. I then designed a layout for the puzzle pieces on Adobe Illustrator. Using the Glowforge software, I uploaded my layout and used a laser cutter to cut out my puzzle.
Anna Laganovska – A look Inside a Dance Studio: A video
I created a short video that featured documentary-style elements in order to provide people with an inside look into a dance studio. The goal of the first part of the video was to convey the energy and 'vibe' found inside the studio, while the latter part of the video focused more on traditional interview questions that gave an inside perspective and voice to the people dancing at the studio.
Eleanor Lee – Choral Arranging
For my senior project, I explored choral arranging with the Musescore 4 software. The most significant product that I got from this experience was an arrangement of "American Tune" by Paul Simon for four-part SATB choir and a solo (as opposed to its original instrumentation which was voice and guitar).
Amalia Leite – A Study in Aviation
I have been a member of a Civil Air Patrol squadron for the past three years. As a cadet, I studied aviation/aerospace and was accepted at Aim High Flight Academy sponsored by the US Air Force. At Aim High I became a student pilot and performed my first solo flight. For my senior project, I wanted to continue to pursue aviation. I took the time to study for the FAA private pilot's license, working though various modules and taking practice tests. I also prepared a number of aerospace lessons, creating a manual to help my fellow cadets at my CAP squadron as I, as Cadet Commander, am responsible for teaching weekly classes.
Rosie Liu – The Real Students of Hopkins
For my senior project, I created an episode of a reality TV show (very loosely based off The Real Housewives) to show how media can be manipulated to create a false narrative. I filmed a group of people playing a card game, and by using classic reality TV elements such as sound effects, background music, and zoom-ins, I made it look a lot more dramatic than it actually was.
Lucas Llovera – Transcribing "So What"
The main focus of my project was learning about improvisation on Miles Davis' song "So What". I transcribed, analyzed, and then played Miles Davis and John Coltrane's solos. This process helped me better understand modal jazz and the phrasing behind Miles and Coltrane's solos.
Elissa Matthews – Black Heritage Academy
Through Black Heritage Academy, I designed a curriculum for students in the 3rd and 4th grade to learn about Black History and Black Scientists. The curriculum is complete with lesson plans and worksheets with labs for students to use as they are learning these topics. I hope this curriculum can be implemented into classrooms in the future for this age range to understand history and science better.
Logan Matthews – Learning to Quilt
In this project I learned how to sew, and then how to quilt. After making a collection of trial quilts from recycled fabric, I made a ~6x6ft quilt out of my childhood baseball/tee-ball and soccer jerseys. I chose a hexagonal pattern for the quilt to diversify the layout options and mimic the patterns of a soccer ball.
Lena O’Malley & Kaitlyn Miller – Senior Video
My senior project was to film and capture our senior year. I did this by conducting interviews with faculty and students about their favourite memories and things of the class of 2025. I also edited together the various of our events through throughout this year.
Aaliyah Padilla & Shreya Rao –
Hopkins, Tell Us What's Wrong "We created an interview series asking Hopkins students, faculty, and staff to provide advice for younger/new members of the Hopkins community. We asked questions like "What is one piece of advice you would give your freshman self?" and "What is one thing you wish you knew before coming to Hopkins?" Throughout the course of a few weeks, we gathered interviews, edited them in Premier Pro, and posted them to our YouTube channel where anyone who is looking for a friendly face, some guidance, or just the knowledge that they're not alone in what they're going through can watch our videos.

Jesse Piazza – Representation in Media
I created a book and film list that is more representative of the current student body. I conducted surveys, read reviews, listened to recommendations, and analyzed media that showcased diverse characters and perspectives. My hope is that this list serves as a guide for anyone looking to feel seen in the media they consume.
Katie Spenner – Marketing Memories
I did a marketing research project on how nostalgia affects consumer behavior. Then, I made a video series out of my research. Here, I included information, interviews, and interesting visuals.
Karun Srihari – Learning the Piano
I spent the spring term learning the basics of piano, like scales and reading music. In addition, I learned two songs (The Scientist and Everglow, both by Coldplay) to perform at the fair.
Colten Trepp – Life After Hopkins
I aimed to share the class of 2025’s aspirations after graduating with the Hopkins communities. My podcast explored graduating seniors’ college plans, goals for the future, and career goals, as well as reflected on their time at Hopkins and how it shaped their goals. I hope Life After Hopkins can inform underclassmen about career/college paths they are interested in and guide them in getting there (whether it's recruiting, attending a military academy, becoming a premed student, etc). Additionally, I hope the podcast sheds light on the purpose of working hard in classes and making the most of academic opportunities at Hopkins.
Wave Walters – Making My Perfect Pair of Jeans
I wanted to create a pair of jeans that had my perfect fit. I wanted them to be low/mid rise, wide leg, and baggy.
Hailey Willey – On Growing Up
Foam and felt installation art piece.
Magnolia Willey –
Where in the world is the Ninth Legio Hispana? My senior project was an academic exploration into the different theories of the Ninth's disappearance. It included writing a research paper of all my findings, as well as the construction of historically accurate centurion armor and shield. The whole project was presented in a dialogue with a map showing the possible explanations for the legion's disappearance.
