Outstanding Soloist and Top Honors for Hopkins Bands

On Saturday, May 17, the Hopkins Jazz Band and Concert Band participated in the Music in the Parks Festival at Lake Compounce in Bristol, CT. Both ensembles earned Superior Ratings, the highest possible rating, and placed first in their respective divisions.

Additionally, Timothy E. ’28 received the Outstanding Soloist Award for his trombone solo in Rockin' In Rhythm with the Jazz Band.

Following the performances, students spent the afternoon enjoying the park. Drama teacher Mike Calderone, history teacher Errol Saunders, French teacher Naomi Senzer, and front office administrative assistant Karen Silk all volunteered as chaperones and joined in the fun.

The Music in the Parks Festival is an annual event held across the U.S. for student choral, orchestral, and band ensembles. Organized by the Educational Programs Network, the festival hosts over 200,000 student musicians each year. Groups perform for adjudicators in the morning, spend the day at an amusement park, and attend an afternoon awards ceremony. Awards are given to individuals as well as full ensembles.

Congratulations to this outstanding group of young musicians!
