Dr. Josh Brant named Assistant Coach of the Year

Brant, Alum '88, current school psychologist and coach, was honored by the Connecticut Soccer Coaches Association.
He was recently honored at the CSCA Banquet.  Head Coach Joe Addison submitted the following about Brant:

In many ways, Josh knows the Hopkins soccer program better than anyone else. He played goalkeeper for one of Eric Mueller's most successful sides in the late 80s. He studied and played at St. Lawrence before becoming a Doctor of Psychology and returning to Hopkins as a clinical psychologist and Psychology teacher. He has coached the Hilltoppers' soccer team since 2008, first assisting his former coach (Eric Mueller) and now working alongside Joe Addison since 2015. Thanks to his coaching, the team has won the past three Fairchester Athletic Association titles.

In addition to his extensive knowledge about the goalkeeping position and tactics, Josh's training as a clinical psychologist means he brings a keen awareness of the mental side of the game and the emotional needs of the players. Brant organizes mindfulness sessions at practice, makes time for visualization, leads open discussions throughout the season, and individually checks in with players to get a sense of their needs and goals before offering implementable strategies to accomplish them. He is an expert at establishing a team identity while giving players room to be individuals. Year after year, he fosters a bond between players that allows them to be vulnerable, aspirational, and healthily competitive. He makes the Hopkins soccer players better every day he works with them and adds complex and beautiful psychosocial dimensions to the program.

Congratulations Dr. Brant!
