First Away Game is a Loss to Suffield

In their first road tilt, Hop Boys Lax traveled north to Suffield Academy. The non league game proved to be a good test for the Hilltoppers. Finding themselves in an early hole, Hopkins was never able to recover. The young defensive core held their own throughout the game. Sophomore Gabe Goodman started for the second time alongside first time pole Andy Li. Fearon and Hensel once again led the team in what was a solid ground ball effort. Unfortunately ground balls led to failed clears and errant passes, not sustained possessions. As always star Matt Goos powered through defenders, on his way to a four goal performance. His warrior approach was not enough, as Hop struggled to move the ball and play settled offense. Toby Scheps had the only assist of the day. After effective faceoff play from young Max Jacobs and capitalizing while man up, Hopkins was able to get within three. A deflating fast break goal put the Tigers back up by four and the Hilltoppers were forced to be aggressive. As the defense pressed out, it overextended. Suffield netted more goals and put the contest out of reach. Goos continued to fight and draw penalties until the final whistle. Mike Shewaye fired six shots with his impressive right hand, netting one. Suffield 12. Hopkins 6. A misleading scoreline in what was a competitive game.
