Perhaps still smarting a bit from the close loss to Brunswick, the Hardcourt Hilltoppers returned to action today at 3PM versus the Wyverns, a rival who has challenged us for decades. Our graphite-chewing goats got the best of them today with some smart tennis, some grit, and some swift feet.

Doubles commenced the match, and quickly went in our favor. Will and Evan appeared unstoppable today. Their expert teamwork led them to capture the net. Jake and Gray had fire coming out of their nostrils the first three games, but their opponents were able to even up the match. Fortunately, Jake and Gray are all about the grind, and therefore were able to set up the points and convert.

Playing at #1 in the NEPSAC format for the first time, Lucas and Karun acquitted themselves well against the formidable lefty duo of Concepción/Blair. This veteran K-O team worked in lockstep (and with lots of powerful spin) to earn a solid victory against our promising pairing.

The singles matches were also filled with excitement. Capt. Andy was the first of the goats to make it back to the barn with a definitive victory. His serve-and-volley combo was superb today. Next to earn a point for the team was Jacob, who also took command of his match early with powerful shots to the corners. The remaining matches were closer, however. Bryan took an early lead but had to overcome a cramp in his thigh in the second set, ultimately closing it out and clinching the contest. Jay had a slow start today against an opponent with an amazingly powerful forehand. Fortunately, Jay's serve started to hit the mark. He forced a tiebreaker, claimed it 7-2, and never took his foot off the accelerator.

Teo faced off against a solid competitor who challenged him throughout the match with powerful groundstrokes. Our senior goat never relinquished control of the match, however. Finally, Alex managed to fend off a second-set charge by his opponent with a solid ground game and smart court strategy.

It was a good day for the team. We'll take the rest of the week to gear up for the challenges in store for us the next two weeks- Tuesday 4/30 vs. St Luke's, and then we enter the merry month of May for GCDS, GFA, and our FAA tournament. Stay tuned!!

YEAH HOP!!
