  • Fencing - Boys Varsity

    2011 - 2012
    Head Coach: Brad Ridky

The Hopkins Fencing team competes against schools from Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts.  Recent Hopkins graduates have gone on to successful college fencing careers at Johns Hopkins, Harvard, University of Pennsylvania, and Vassar, among other schools.

Hopkins fields teams in three weapons at the Varsity level.  The primary goal of the coaching staff is to train fencers in the fundamentals of the sport while developing a love and understanding for fencing.  No student who wishes to learn and works hard in practice is ever turned away from the team.

Sean Vilar joined the Hopkins Fencing program in 2016, where he served as an assistant coach until becoming the Head Coach in 2022.  Coach Vilar has been fencing since 2004, and has medaled at national, collegiate, and international tournaments.  He has been coaching since 2009, trained by Cuban fencing legend Joaquin Maximo Tack-Fang Araya.  Outside of Hopkins, Coach Vilar serves as the Head Sabre Coach for the Shoreline Fencers Club.
