PENN Teaching Fellows Program
at Hopkins School

About the Independent school teaching residency program (istr)

Hopkins School partners with the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education (GSE) in offering new and aspiring Middle and Upper School teachers the opportunity to earn a Master’s degree in education while completing two-year teaching fellowships on our New Haven, Connecticut campus. The program lays the foundation for truly outstanding teaching by combining classroom experience and a broad and rich understanding of theory and pedagogy. Fellows are prepared to provide their students with an exceptional learning environment.

The PENN Fellows Program at Hopkins will have these components:
• mentoring by a veteran member of the Hopkins faculty
• teaching two course sections
• coaching or leading a student activity
• online course work with all members of the PENN ISTR Program
• one week onsite course work at PENN each summer
• three weekends during the academic year at one of the consortium schools with faculty from the schools and from PENN
• earning a Master’s Degree from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education (GSE)

Course work will be led by GSE faculty members and delivered at the PENN campus and at host schools. In addition, each fellow will be paired with a Hopkins Mentor teacher and a GSE Mentor.

degree

The PENN ISTR Program confers a Master of Science in Education (M.S.Ed.) and requires the completion of 10 course units over two years. Fellows complete an Inquiry Project in their second year.
