Field Hockey Weathers Storm

Hopkins travelled to New Canaan today to face the St. Luke's Storm on their homecoming.  The Hilltoppers were hungry for a win after playing well against, but being stifled by, an impressive GA squad on Wednesday.  Hopkins adjusted with reasonable ease to the turf, and though play was definitely changed by the surface, we still scored 1.5 minutes in (goal scored by captain Amanda Dobbyn and assisted by Medina Geyer) to set the tone for the day.  Minutes later Kat Fedorchak sunk her third goal of the season.  After a St Luke's timeout, play evened out quite a bit, and with 5 minutes left St. Luke's scored on a corner to make it a one goal game.  Thankfully, Junior Leslie Brunker, who had a stellar game, answered 72 seconds later to put the game at 3-1 Hop.  Both teams came out hungry in the second half, and Emory Werner followed through after scuffle for the ball on the goal line to make the game a much safer 4-1 lead.  The most exciting moment in the game, however, was yet to come.  After the St Luke's goalie covered the ball in the circle, a penalty stroke was called.  Senior Lexi Parr stepped up to the stroke mark, awaited the whistle, and buried the ball into the net with a loud THUD on the backboards.  The remainder of the game was energetic, if uneventful, and the time ran out leaving the scoreboard at Hopkins 5, St. Luke's 1, and Hopkins' record at a tantalizing 3-2.
