At 5:30pm on January 19th, 2017, the Hopkins Drama Association celebrated the Ghost Light Project along with many other theaters across the country including Yale Rep, Long Wharf, Hartford Stage and the Shubert.
The moment was chosen to be a time to shine a light on the values of inclusion, participation and compassion for everyone. The gathering was led by HDA Heads Tim Halvorsen '17 and Tatyana Rozetta '17 who spoke a few words and, as a gesture of commitment to that aforementioned light, students and faculty raised their own lights from cell phones and penlights as a beacon of hope and inspiration.
Everyone was invited to fill out a small sign that read "I Am..." and "I Fight For..." and posted them about the lobby of Lovell Hall. Additional blank posters are available in the Lovell Lobby for anyone who was not able to be at the ceremony but would like to contribute their thoughts.
Finally, the ceremony involved lighting Lovell Theater's own ghost light - a theatrical tradition leaving a light burning on the stage throughout the night to ensure everyone is safe and visible. The ghost light will remain lit in the Lovell Lobby as a reminder to us all that the theater is a safe community and supports all safe communities that celebrate life in all of its diversity.
