The Hopkins Ski Team has enjoyed a great first half of the winter season. One of the fastest growing programs on the hill, the team races in the Connecticut Interscholastic Ski League. The Giant Slalom races are held at Mt. Southington in Southington, CT.

After many tough conditioning practices and lots of preparation, the team took on 20+ local schools at Mt. Southington on January 24th. Led by Captains Andrew Treat ‘18 and Libby Gardner ‘18, the team had a strong showing in the competitive event, with the boys finishing in 9th place overall and the girls in 6th overall.

The eight members of the boys team (Andrew Treat ‘18, Alex Weisman ‘20, Charlie Mason ‘19, Aaron Jaynes ‘19, Tim Sullivan ‘19, Jackson Weisman ‘20, Olivier Kibbey ‘18, and Sam Burrow ‘19) all contributed, highlighted by Treat’s time of 25.43 seconds, which was ranked 18th in the conference.

The thirteen members of the girls team (Libby Gardner ‘18, Erin Kelleher ‘21, Katrina Tiktinsky ‘18, Charlotte Healy ‘20, Katherine Takoudes ‘20, Grace Rhatigan ‘21, Katrina Schmier ‘19, Lilly Kaiser ‘20, Rayane Taroua ‘20, Anne Marie Dooher ‘20, Courtney Culver ‘19, Hannah Volk ‘18, and Arabella Caruso ‘20) all had strong performances. Gardner’s time of 25.55 seconds was good for 5th place in the conference; Kelleher, a freshman, posted a 24.78 second time, which was 4th in the conference. Kelleher qualified for the second round of the Shootout Races, which determine the CT All-State Ski Team.

“The thrill of representing Hopkins while flying down a mountain is incredible,” said Aaron Jaynes ‘19.

With a promising future ahead, the Ski Team never looks back as it races down “The Hill.”
