On Saturday, May 1, the Choral Music Room in Thompson Hall was dedicated in memory of Madeline Volpe, wife of Vincent R. Volpe, Sr. and mother of Vincent 1976, Jeanne, Barbara 1978, and Christopher 1981. The gift of Christine and Vincent R. Volpe 1976, members of the Volpe family and their friends came together to celebrate the life of Madeline Volpe and commemorate the naming of the Choral Music Room in her memory. Mrs. Volpe was born and educated in New Haven, attended Fair Haven Middle School, Hillhouse High School, and was graduated from Grace New Haven School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1949.
Hopkins’ a cappella singing group, The Spirens, sang for the assembled guests, who were welcomed by Head of School, Barbara Riley and Ken Paul 1968 HGS, Chairman of the Development Committee of the Hopkins Committee of Trustees. In spoken and written remarks about his mother, Vincent Volpe, Jr. noted, “This beautiful vocal room is simply the perfect dedication to Madeline Volpe in recognition of the sacrifices she made for her children and what she most enjoyed about our life at Hopkins.” Mr. Volpe went on to say, “it is our wish and belief that those who follow for the next 350 years will benefit from the same life-long enrichment that the academic and social experience Hopkins has provided us.”
