In January, two Hopkins teams competed in the Science Olympiad Invitational Tournament at Yale University. This invitational was great practice for our teams before the State competition in March.
Undergraduates at Yale University hosted a Science Olympiad Invitational Tournament on Saturday, January 17, 2014. Events ranged from Entomology to Protein Modeling to Scrambler, spanning the fields of Earth Science, Physics, Biology and Chemistry. Some were test-based and other required students to build a device to accomplish a particular goal. All of the 23 events scheduled for this year were run.
Hopkins sent two teams to compete in the event. The Hopkins "A" team won 7th place overall out of 47 teams. The majority of the teams came from 5 states: CT, NY, PA, NJ and MA. NJ, NY and PA, in particular, have very extensive, competitive nationally ranked Science Olympiad programs statewide so competing against such teams was a valuable experience to help Hopkins get ready for the state competition on March 28, 2015.
Our medal winners:
Forensics: 2nd place - Henry Hanlon, Emily Malison Fossils: 5th place - Ben Koleske, Michael Zhou
Congratulations to our HOP Science Olympiad teams!
