Sixteen Hopkins Students Named Semifinalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program

When officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®) recently announced the names of over 16,000 Semifinalists in the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program, 16 of them were seniors at Hopkins School, the most at any school in the state of Connecticut.

The students named were: Rhea Ahuja, Arin Bhandari, Benjamin Card, Nicolas Ciminiello, Mikiko Coakley, Melody Cui, Charles Fisher, Riley Foushee, Rachael Huang, Nicholas Lee, Amy Metrick, Savan Parikh, William Shaw, Nao Tomita, Joy Xu, and Helen Zhou. Congratulations to these students who all represent the Hopkins class of 2023.

These 16 students now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.

National Merit Scholarship winners of 2023 will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July next year. Click here to learn more about the program.
