Celebrating Recent Hopkins Retirees

As the 2022-2023 school year ended, we said goodbye to four wonderful community members who retired from their Hopkins careers this year.

Director of Medical Services and Head Athletic Trainer Don Bagnall has retired after 41 years at Hopkins. Read the story from Views from the Hill about Don's career here.   On Saturday, June 3, 2023, hundreds of alumni, colleagues, and friends came to honor Don at a retirement celebration. See the full video here.

Librarian Debbie Dubois has retired after 23 year on the Hill. A friendly and familiar face to students and faculty seeking out books and resources in the Library, Dubois will be greatly missed. Read the article in the June issue of The Razor written by Shriya Sakalkale '24, Lead Arts Editor here.

English teacher Renée Harlow has retired after 18 years at Hopkins. During her tenure, she served as English Department Chair, advised the Daystar, coached several sports, and taught almost every course. When current English Dept. Chair Joe Addison spoke about Harlow and her many contributions at one of the closing faculty/staff meetings, he used several descriptors.

"Renée is a powerhouse. An intellectual marvel. A literary legend. She could teach any class, and she could teach it tomorrow," said Addison. "School years can be chaotic and challenging. Fast and furious. And it takes moments of humanity to get a sense of direction and purpose and comfort and belonging. Renée provided all of that and always kept it at the front of everything she did and continues to do. That is a gift we can’t replace but can certainly celebrate," he added.

Director of Dining Services, Mike King will retire this fall from Flik Dining Services after 23 years serving the Hopkins community. A friendly face at every lunch wave during the school year, as well as hundreds of special events on campus, Mike will be dearly missed by all at Hopkins. He led his team to prepare delicious meals, provide expert service, and special care for those with food allergies. In the June issue of The Razor, community members shared messages of thanks and well wishes to Mike. Read those messages here.
