Assembly Speaker Cam Awesome Delivers a Powerful Message About Resiliency

Assembly this past Monday was, in a word, AWESOME.

The Hopkins community, seated for the usual 8 a.m. assembly, was treated to a raucous and impactful speech that centered around the themes of overcoming failure, embracing adversity, and the power of redefining your life’s narrative. Our guest was Cam F. Awesome, a professional motivational speaker and former super heavyweight boxer who won the US title in 2008, 2010, 2013, and 2014 and the Golden Gloves in 2009, 2011, and 2013. Awesome’s riveting story wasn’t about his accomplishments however; it was about how he dealt with setback after setback throughout his life and career. Awesome talked about how practicing gratitude for the things he does have rather than the things he doesn’t set him on a path to personal happiness which he now eagerly spreads to his audiences across the country. The speech was heartfelt, inspiring, and funny, leaving students with a host of questions for Awesome following his presentation.

Awesome’s visit contributes to a larger series where speakers come to Hopkins to talk about mental health issues and lead discussions about wellness.

Here are a few photos of Awesome’s visit.
