    Head Coach: Adam Sperling

Hopkins has a strong wrestling tradition that dates back to the early 60s and prides itself on teaching the skills required to succeed both on and off the mat.  We work to provide a fun and challenging environment for our student athletes to learn and excel in the sport of wrestling, and the coaches are committed to both balancing competitiveness and maintaining a positive experience for all team members.

The Hopkins wrestling team is currently a member of the Western New England and New England Independent School Wrestling Associations.  We have a competitive schedule, competing against many of the boarding a day schools from the Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts areas, and each year we compete in the Western New England (Connecticut States) tournament.  Those who qualify then go on to wrestle in the New England and National Prep school tournaments.

When our wrestlers graduate from Hopkins, we want them to understand what it means to be people of character and people of integrity.  Even though every year we strive to win individual and team state titles, in the process we want our young wrestlers to know what hard work is, as well as to understand the results of making the right choices in life.

Head Coach Adam Sperling grew up wrestling at the William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia.  During his collegiate career at Davidson College, he earned four varsity letters, served twice as captain, and earned wins at six different weight classes. Post Davidson, Coach Sperling taught and coached at Penn Charter where he helped his cousin earn a Prep National Title.  Since becoming the head coach in 2005, Hopkins has had numerous Western New England place winners, as well as many New England and National Prep qualifiers.  Coach Sperling holds a bronze level certification from USA Wrestling.  He currently serves as the FAA sport liaison for wrestling, is the President of WNEPSWA, and is the New England representative to the National Prep Board. He is a member of the Mathematics department and an assistant varsity lacrosse coach.
