Yale-China Fellow Duane Bean visits Chinese classes

On Tuesday, February 6th, Chinese 1A, Chinese 3 and AP Chinese-2 classes welcomed Mr. Duane Bean as a guest speaker to talk about his journey to teaching at Yali School in Changsha, China. Our students of Chinese enjoyed learning about Duane’s teaching work as well as Chinese students’ life.

Duane Bean (段duàn博bó安ān ) is a Yale-China Fellow at Yali Middle School, one of Changsha’s top public schools, where he teaches English to high school sophomores. In May 2017, Mr. Bean graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, with a focus on climate change and environmental justice. Before moving to China, Duane served as the director of Camp Kesem, a summer camp for kids whose parents have or have had cancer. He is happy to continue working with young people in China.
