Cross Country has Exceptional Finish

The teams had the final regular season race on Wednesday, October 20th.  The boys team finished undefeated in the regular season for the 3rd consecutive year, and the girls team finished with a 24-3 record.
On Wednesday, October 20, the Fairchester Athletic Association hosted the third and final all-league meet, to close out the regular season.
The meet was at the Brunswick School, in Greenwich CT. The course was 5k.
The participating schools were:
  • Girls: Greenwich Academy, Sacred Heart (Greenwich), Holy Child, Greenwich Country Day, Rye, GFA, Greenwich Academy, Masters, King, St. Luke’s, Hopkins
  • Boys: Brunswick, GFA, King, St. Luke’s, Masters, Greenwich Country Day, Rye Country Day, Hopkins

Three girls' teams went into the meet with 16-2 records: Hopkins, GA, Sacred Heart, each with 1 loss to the other two. In this final race, GA wound up coming up on top, defeating Hopkins 26-29; they also defeated Sacred Heart. Hopkins defeated Sacred Heart 26-29.  Hopkins girls XC closes the season with a 24-3 regular season record, second to GA's 25-2.

The top runner for Hopkins at the race was sophomore Ava Maccaro in 20:51, in 5th place overall.  Senior captain Suthi Navaratnam-Tomayko* and ninth-grader Sarah Galvani-Townsend were in the top 10, in 8th and 9th respectively.

On the boys' side, the Hopkins boys went into the race with a 14-0 record. They went undefeated in this race as well, giving them a perfect 21-0 for the season, despite being without Evan Migdole ’22, who was out sick that day.

The top runners for Hopkins were senior captain Will Cooper and junior Luke Brennan, in 5th and 6th place, respectively. Junior Adam Hagens was 8th, and freshman Logan Matthews ran a sparkling race, PR-ing and dipping under 18:00 for the first time, with a 17:57 performance, good for 10th overall, and fastest freshman.

The scoring spread for the Hopkins varsity was 43 seconds, the tightest spread by far in the field.  See the full results here.

Hopkins boys win the regular season with a 21-0 record. This is their third consecutive undefeated regular season (2018, 2019, 2021, with no FAA season in 2020). The Hilltoppers are 57-0 in that time in the FAA.

Hopkins girls finished 24-3, good for second in the league.

The boys and girls combined for a 45-3 record overall in 2021.
 
*The results list Swarna Navaratnam-Tomayko twice, once in Suthi's place and once in her own; Suthi Navaratnam-Tomayko placed 8th.
