Hopkins Drops Opener to St. Luke's

On Friday afternoon, September 12th, the Hopkins Hilltoppers hosted the St. Luke’s Storm for their kickoff game of the 2025 season.  It had been 7 years since St. Luke’s and Hopkins faced off in a regular season matchup, and the teams faced off under sunny skies and ideal conditions for an afternoon football game.

Hopkins started the game strong, forcing St. Luke’s to punt on their first two possessions and turning the ball over to the Hilltoppers deep in enemy territory.  Facing 2nd and 9 from St. Luke’s 18 yard line, Rohan M ‘26 connected with Cole B ‘27 for the touchdown to put Hopkins ahead 6-0.  The Hilltoppers first play of the second quarter built on their lead, as Rohan M found Marcus R ‘26 for a short completion before the ball was punched free, picked up by Dylan G '27 who then rushed 65 yards untouched for the heads-up scoop and score.  Later in the half, Dylan G would add on to Hopkins lead by kicking a 20 yard field goal, setting the score at 15-7 heading into the second half.  Unfortunately, Hopkins struggled to get their offense going in the second half and St. Luke’s wore down the Hilltoppers defense through a consistent ground game behind their offensive line.  As the game finished, Hopkins would fall 32-15.

The Hilltoppers will look to quickly respond as they host the Morristown Beard Crimson this upcoming Friday at 6:30pm.  This will be the Hilltoppers only home night game of the regular season, and we hope to see many of our fans and friends in attendance.
