On March 28, Hopkins science students participated in the CT State Science Olympiad competitions at the University of Connecticut. The two teams, led by faculty coaches Sarah Leite and Jennifer Stauffer, performed exceptionally well, with Team A placing first in the state, and Team B placing second. Team A will go on to the 26th

annual Science Olympiad National Tournament May 20–22, 2010 at the University of Illinois.

Science Olympiad initially involves about 2 million students annually in grades K-12, with 6,000 teams in grades six through 12 actively competing in regional, state and the national tournament. The mission of the program is to enhance the quality of science education, to create a passion for science among young people and to reward both students and teachers for academic achievement.

About 2,400 students in middle school and high school are expected to compete in the National Tournament.

The students, representing 120 teams of champions from across the country, will compete in more than two

dozen events, such as astronomy, bridge building, chemistry, computing and ecology.
