The 2012 Hopkins Reunion took place on June 8–9 this year for classes ending in 2 and 7, with approximately 500 alumni/ae and guests returning to campus. Alumni/ae attended a luncheon in Heath Commons, took campus tours, attended special programs led by current Hopkins faculty and students and many also played in athletic games.
For many alums, Reunion began on Friday, June 8 with class-organized parties at local restaurants and homes. School-sponsored events began on Saturday morning with a 50th Reunion breakfast and tour. In addition to a cookout, alumni/ae athletic games, campus tours and children’s activities, special programs included: In the morning, a group of alumnae from the women's schools gathered in Thompson Hall to hear former faculty members Betty Bradley Benedict '40 DAY and Heidi Dawidoff, along with former Head of Day Prospect Hill School Marillyn Schuman Mulholland. The three women discussed the process in compiling their book,
A History of the Girl's Schools of New Haven: Day, Prospect Hill, and Day Prospect Hill Schools. Concurrently, alumni wrestlers from the '70s and '80s were thrilled to reconnect and share stories with their former wrestling coach Ralph Kirchhofer in Heath Commons. Later in the morning alumni/ae attended a memorial gathering for classmate, teammate and friend, Dan Chepaitis ’87, in the Thompson Hall Amphitheater, along with Dan’s family and friends. Afternoon events included a lecture by Science faculty Joel D'Angelo gave a lecture on Charles Darwin's life, while Assistant Head of School and History faculty John Roberts led a discussion with 40 individuals on the changing landscape of American politics.
More than 200 guests attended the annual alumni/ae luncheon in Heath Commons where President of the Committee of Trustees, David I. Newton '67 HGS and Head of School Barbara Riley reported on the state of the School. During the luncheon, Barbara Riley presented the 2012 Distinguished Alumnus Award to Dr. Howard K. Koh '69 HGS, who is currently serving as Assistant Secretary for Health for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Koh addressed alumni/ae about his fond Hopkins memories and his career in public health.

As the daytime activities came to a close, more Reunion alumni/ae arrived on campus for the evening's cocktail hour and dinner under the tent. It was a successful and joyful Reunion for the hundreds of alumni'ae who returned to Hopkins, to reconnect with one another and catch up with life on the Hill.
