Hopkins Invitational Girls Squash Tournament 2014

Hopkins hosted the seventh annual invitational tournament today. Schools from Massachusetts and Connecticut converged on the Kneisel Squash Center for an afternoon of exciting squash. (Two schools, Canterbury School and Kent School, were unable to travel today because of inclement weather.)

The first round of matches began at 2 o'clock, and all Hopkins girls – Bridget, Mira, Emily, Olivia, Lindsay, Dunia, and Natasha  – won their first round matches. Off the court, teammates not playing today helped run the tournament that was so thoroughly and completely organized by Mr. Bill Ewen, assisted by wonderful parents and Boys Team members Theo and Nick.

Round two and three saw matches that were even closer, with notable moments from each girl, whether for playing an extra-cagey match, focusing during difficult distractions, or simply pulling out the day's only fifth-game victory. Certainly, some Hopkins players found new levels of ability and success. Central to the team's success was each girl's support of each team member, whether coaching or refereeing.

The Hopkins team rides this great day into a busy week, with matches on Wednesday against Greens Farms Academy and Squash Haven, and a Saturday varsity and junior varsity tilt with Choate.
