Hopkins Sweeps Westover Today

Susan Bennitt
In the middle of the night last night it started sleeting and I couldn't sleep for the longest time, listening to it ping against my windows and asking, really, in the middle of April, who'd have thought the match today might have been cancelled? But would it be because if was so cold or because there was a layer of ice on the courts until noon? Our Mighty Men of Maintenance had the courts play-ready with plenty of time, so with it only being a matter of braving the cold, the match was on. With the temperature hovering around 42 degrees and the wind swirling around the courts, the girls bundled up and played fearlessly, winning a total 8-0 sweep for the team, pushing the spring of 2014 winning streak to 6-0. Kami Chin, at #5 singles played decisively and won her match 6-0, 6-1. Emily Hao at #4 singles had an easy first set winning 6-0, but her opponent came back in the second a changed player, determined to give her a run for her money. Emily fought hard and won the second 7-6.  Lulu, Marion and Erica and #3, #2 and #1 singles, had a great afternoon, dropping only 5 games among them. Doubles wasn't far behind with Ally and Jackie at #3 winning 6-2, 6-2, Jen and Catherine at #2 dominating 6-1, 6-0, and Nicole and Caroline at #1 with a resolute 6-0, 6-1 score. What a great  job today! Pomfret is our next opponent, away on Saturday. We hope you make the trip to cheer for the girls!
