Greater New Haven Chess Tournament


Hopkins hosted the 2014 Greater New Haven Fall Open Tournament on Saturday, November 1, and Hopkins student Yoony Kim '19 was named the 2014 Open Champion.

Hopkins hosted the 2014 Greater New Haven Fall Open Tournament on Saturday, November 1. Sixty participants of all ages spent the day playing chess and by the end of the day, winners were announced in four sections: U800, U1200, U1600, and Open. Hopkins’ own Yoony Kim ’19 was named the 2014 Greater New Haven Open Champion, winning over his younger and older opponents. Yoony is ranked 8th in the nation of all chess players under the age of 13. Cole Markham ’20 placed fourth and Duncan Tam ’16 placed fifth in the U1200 section. Congratulations to all our Hopkins chess players!

This was the 5th time Hopkins and Educational Technologies (E.T) have partnered to host the tournament, and E.T. director Jim Celone is a 1979 Hopkins alum.
