Boys' Soccer Ties Choate

Hopkins played Choate to a tense 2-2 tie this afternoon. The Hilltoppers struggled to initially deal with the speediness of the Choate attack and conceded during a goal-mouth scramble. Not long after, Lucio Moscarini pegged Choate back with his first career goal. Nick Vranos fizzed in a fierce free kick and Dan Leszczynski nudged it to an open Moscarini. The sophomore prodded the ball home before wheeling away in celebration. The teams traded attacks for the remainder of the first half.

Hopkins started the second half slowly and Choate eventually found space and finished well on a breakaway. But again, Hopkins showed its resilience and a mazy, jinking run from Vranos resulted in a penalty that he duly buried.

Hopkins defense still has plenty to work on but played far more cohesively than the Salisbury game. Nikolas Zarikos and Tiger Lu kept Choate's wide players at bay and Mitch Patton and Thom Rosiello worked together to keep the opposing players from turning toward goal.

Phil Geanakoplos grew in stature throughout the game. He was commanding in the air and quick with his distribution. Most importantly, he came through with a fine one-handed save in the final seconds of the game.

Hopkins will need to carry this momentum forward into its game next Thursday against a seasoned Greens Farms team.
