Hopkins Bands Perform at the National Jazz Festival
On Saturday, April 18, student musicians in the Hopkins Jazz Ensemble and H-Bop groups participated in the 7th annual National Jazz Festival in Philadelphia, PA. The Jazz Ensemble earned 4th place in their division, and Gabe C. '26 received the Outstanding Musicianship Award for his performance.
Later that day, Liam T. '26, Kyle A. '26, Timothy E. '28, Greta L. '28, and Stanley S. '29 joined other high school musicians for a performance at the Awards Ceremony as members of the National Jazz Festival Diplomats.
“The groups put on excellent performances for a panel of judges, clinicians, and other attendees of the festival,” said Instrumental Music Instructor Erik Elligers.
In addition to the ensemble performances, students attended clinics, played in jam sessions, watched groups from other schools, and enjoyed Philadelphia’s famous Reading Terminal Market for dinner.
“All of our students who attended the Festival worked incredibly hard to prepare their music and should be very proud of their performance this year,” Elligers reflected.
