Cross Country's Upcoming Championships

On Monday, October 29th, the Cross Country Team will head to Sherwood Island Park in Westport, CT for the FAA Championship race.  For the first time since 2007, both teams are heading into the meet with undefeated records in the FAA league, having defeated last year’s champions, Sacred Heart and Brunswick, several times.

“I think our chances look very good,” says Charlie Mason ‘19, one of the team’s top runners. If the team performs as well as it has all season, wins on both sides should be easily within reach.

The FAA Championship race has historically produced impressive performances at the individual level as well because of the added adrenaline and the lighter training leading up to the meet. The race is usually held at Waveny Park in New Canaan, but will be held at Sherwood Island instead this year, due to construction. Luckily, the team has already run this course twice this season, and knows it well.

FAA Championships are important, but the team is ultimately looking forward to the NEPSTA Championships on November 10th, at Governor’s Academy in Massachusetts. Both teams hope to improve upon last year’s 5th-place showing. The FAA Championships will serve as an opportunity for both teams to test their fitness on a familiar, flat course against familiar opponents, before they face stronger teams in a couple weeks.

*Since the writing of this article, both the Girls and Boys Teams came in first place in the FAA Championship Race
