Rumble on the Hill
Last Saturday, December 1st, Hopkins hosted the 3rd annual Rumble on the Hill wrestling tournament. 13 teams from around Connecticut and New York attended, including powerhouses such as Brunswick, BB&N, Choate and Avon. This was the Hopkins wrestlers’ first chance to show their skills and demonstrate the work they’ve put in over the past three weeks. Hopkins Wrestling has a very strong lineup this year and is looking to capitalize on their size and experience at tournaments and competitions.
Of the 14 weight classes, Hopkins submitted wrestlers at 11. Chris Takoudes, Sammy Rivera, Dominic Roberts, Theo Tellides, Owen Sherman, Doug Guilford, Brandon Smith, and Tyler Cipriano all placed in the top 6 in their respective weight classes. Owen Sherman even won the 170 lb weight class. Chris Takoudes and Brandon Smith both took 5th in their first tournament ever at the 106 lb and 196 lb weight classes respectively. Hopkins placed 6th as a team, coming very close to beating Trinity Pawling.
Hopkins Wrestling performed very well and will continue to work to improve and have better results as the season progresses; as it stands Hopkins Wrestling is in a very good starting point and has made a name for themselves.
