Girls Tennis New England Threepeat

On Sunday, the Varsity Girls Tennis Team won their 3rd straight New England title.
The girls played the quarter and semi finals at Hopkins on Saturday, advancing them to play Westminster for the New England title.  The coaches summed up the day with this:

After sweeping both Berkshire and St. Mark's yesterday for a spot in the New England finals today at Westminster, we headed out bright and early for Simsbury this morning. The heavens opened up while we were on our way, so we had a delay while we waited not so patiently for the courts to be  rolled and dried.

Doubles went out first and we saw we'd have stiffer competition than in the qualifying rounds. We split points as Olivia and Drew (1) took their pro set 8-4 and Viv and Lera (2) dropped theirs at 8-5 for Westminster. Courtney and Juliana (3) battled out a real nail biter which ended on a break for Hopkins at 9-7,  giving us a 2-1 lead.

Ten minutes in to the singles matches Olivia (1) was the only one on the scoreboard, but the Hopkins grit came through, and Olivia took her first set 6-1, Lera (5) won hers 6-2, and Juliana (4) dominated with a 6-3 score. Drew (2), Courtney (3) and Margot (6) dropped their first sets, and were turning things around as play continued. Olivia was quick to come off first with a 6-0 second set giving us a 3-1 lead, Lera was next at 6-1, putting us at a 4-1 lead, and all eyes turned to Juliana as she tore through hers and won 6-0, giving us the 5 points for the championship.

It was an amazing experience for the girls to see all of their hard work and dedication compensated as they got to hold the trophy high. We could not be prouder of every single one of our players. Go Hop!

Congratulations to all the girls on their amazing victory.  GO HOP!
