During the week of May 28–31, the Class of 2019 participated in a Senior Service project in and around the City of New Haven. Community Service Chairs Alissa Davis, John Isaacs and Anna Robinette planned and coordinated the active week, placing the seniors, faculty and staff volunteers at a multitude of sites working with more than 15 local organizations. Each day the groups were assigned to different locations and different tasks, which ranged from gardening and yard work, to painting and cleaning, to mentoring students, building theater sets and costumes, painting a mural, helping build houses and organizing food and donated items.
Organizations included: CT Food Bank Mauro-Sheridan School LEAP NHS Habitat for Humanity New Haven Farms St. Luke's Church NH Parks Department Westville Renaissance Alliance Chapel Haven Good Will Girl Scouts Long Wharf CT Mental Health Tower One
Through this reciprocal service learning-based experience, students, faculty and staff came to understand more about all of the amazing work going on in their community. Congratulations to all the Hopkins volunteers for an incredibly successful week!
