Alumni/ae Weekend 2019

Hopkins held its annual Alumni/ae Weekend on Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1, welcoming alumni/ae, their families, emeriti/ae, faculty and staff back to campus to reconnect with each other and the School.

Alumni/ae Weekend began on Friday, May 31 with a kickoff reception at Swensen House, following which classes enjoyed reconnecting at parties at local restaurants and homes.

Events began on Saturday morning with a 50th Reunion Breakfast at Swensen House, and the 7th annual Run/Walk in honor of retired faculty, Clay Hall, as well as campus tours. A casual picnic lunch was served under the tent. Following lunch, families enjoyed activities on Pratt Field including an inflatable obstacle course, cornhole, face painting, balloon animals and fresh-popped kettle corn. Families and friends also enjoyed watching the alumni/ae sports games, which included the annual alumni lacrosse game on Parr Field, an alumni baseball game played against the current Varsity squad, and a softball game bringing current students and alumnae together on Smilow Field.

Afternoon events included a 360 look at Hopkins with Head of School Kai Bynum in Thompson Hall, as well as a Back to Class: 21st Century Democracy session with History faculty and Assistant Head of School, John Roberts in the Weissman Room, with special guest Fran Palmieri '79, who was honored as the 2019 Distinguished Alumnus.

Later in the afternoon, the Hopkins Black Alumni/ae Network (HBAN) held a Diversity and Inclusion reception in Heath Commons, inviting anyone in support of their mission to join. Smaller gatherings included an HDA Alumni/ae Meetup in Lovell, and a soccer alumnae reception honoring Gerard Casanova, as he retires from coaching Girls' Soccer this year.

Over 300 alumni/ae were in attendance from classes ending in 4 and 9, and with their guests, over 500 people were on campus over the weekend.
Guests journeyed from as far as London and Vancouver, with 13 from California. In all they visited from 26 different states. Shoutout to the Class of 1994 who collectively traveled the farthest to enjoy their 25th Reunion. The oldest class in attendance was 1959 HGS, celebrating their 60th Reunion.

It was a successful and joyful Reunion for the hundreds of alumni/ae who returned to Hopkins, to reconnect with one another and catch up with life on the Hill.
