Hopkins got a little spooky on Friday, October 28, with two Halloween events. The traditional Pumpkin Bowl assembly began the day in the Athletic Center, where students competed in games, including musical chairs, donuts on a string, pumpkin painting and a costume contest. The community also enjoyed musical performances from the Harmonaires and the Overtones, Hopkins' newest a cappella group. Students were sent off to class with donuts to enjoy. See photos from Pumpkin Bowl below.
After the sun went down that evening, the Thompson Quad was transformed during the school’s 2nd annual Night on Haunted Hill celebration. The event showcased the hard work and talents of the Arts Department. Families and friends who gathered on the Quad enjoyed musical performances to begin the evening. The choirs and instrumental ensembles shared a repertoire of Halloween-themed music, see the program below.
Following the musical portion of the evening, the Hopkins Drama Association opened the doors of Lovell Hall for a haunted house. The group hosted around 114 guests on their tour through “Lovell Mansion,” and brought in $570 for the Connecticut Food Bank. While HDA understands more students wanted to experience the Haunted House, they realized from last year’s event that limited numbers and a limited timeframe were healthiest for the performers. HDA hopes to present a Haunted House next year at a different location on campus while the Lovell renovation is taking place. With that new location we will also be looking for ways to better serve those who want to join the fun! This year's Haunted House was a satisfying and seasonal way to begin the good-byes to our beloved Lovell as it is!
