Hopkins girls XC takes 2nd place at Canterbury Invitational

On Saturday, September 23rd, the Hopkins cross-country teams traveled to the Canterbury School in New Milford, CT for the 50th running of the Canterbury Invitational.

The field is divided into two races, Divisions 1 and 2, based on NEPSTA divisions. Hopkins races in the more competitive division 1 race.

In the girls' race, Hopkins was missing senior captain Ava Maccaro (injury / illness). Junior Layla Kenkare was the first Hopkins finisher, in 8th, in 21:08 (a personal record). Junior Saki Tomita, returning from injury, was 11th in 21:15. Ninth-grader Ksenia Podoltseva was 18th in 22:17. Junior Claire Billings was 24th, and senior captain Anna Capelle was 25th. Junior Sarah Galvani-Townsend was 32nd, and sophomore Vivian Huang finished in 34th.

The showing was strong enough for 2nd place behind a very impressive Loomis Chaffee team, which placed all 5 scoring runners in the top 10.

This was the second year in a row that the girls finished second at this race, a very impressive achievement!
