Hopkins Defeated in First FAA Matchup

The Hopkins Hilltoppers, a storm, and the Storm of St. Lukes met on the Hill. It was the second test of the season for Hopkins as they looked to face a familiar foe in their first in-conference matchup. The offense was able to possess the ball and set up early goal scoring opportunities for captain attackman Toby Scheps and junior do-it-all-man Matt Goos. Ratner dominated the draws, oftentimes finding the ball between his feet with no outlet. The wings of St. Lukes were flying on in and would descend on the captain hard. Fast breaks led to goal scoring chances for the visitors. Junior Rich Fearon III played in two spots at once, leading a defensive effort that allowed only 9 goals. As Goos dodged and Ratner pressed on, St. Lukes racked up multiple time serving penalties. Hopkins was unfortunately unable to capitalize on these man up opportunities. Hopkins looked to their younger stars to make impact plays to turn the game back in their favor. Sophomore, Holden Scheps retrieved five ground balls all out of hustle and determination. While Max Jacobs, a junior school varsity player, saw time at both attack and the face off x. Jacobs won four out of his seven faceoffs and also netted his first career Varsity goal and drew a penalty to bring Hopkins within one with only 5 seconds left. Time ran out and Hop did fall. 8-9.
