We were excited to host the 2023 NEPSAC Class B champions, whose squad lived up to their reputation as tough competitors. We really appreciate that the team came from such a great distance away to play us. They were fierce on the court and also very sportsmanlike.

The contest began with the doubles round on the north courts. Although Jay and Lucio jumped to an early lead and maintained it to the end, Max and Alex faced a seasoned team whose serves never faltered in the swirling, windy conditions that we often encounter in the beginning of April. Teo and Andy began the match on their heels and quickly were down two breaks. However, at 4-7, the senior caption duo was able to find a bit of good fortune and a lot of grit in order for them to tie up the match and ultimately to prevail 9-7. With that close victory, Hopkins eked out the doubles point.

Singles was equally exciting. Lucio stayed in the "zone" today and quickly earned the first singles point with big, well-placed serves, and excellent first volleys. Andy also set up the points very well in his contest in order to claim the #6 singles match. The remaining matches were close ones. Alex and Jay attempted to foil their rivals with many different strategies, but their opponents were able to hold leads that they had gained in each set. And Max was able to deliver just the right combination of spin and power on the backhand side in the second set to come out on top against Hoosac's #1.

We look forward to playing Hoosac in future seasons. Next on the agenda for Boys Varsity is a Tuesday sojourn to Rye to play our first 2024 match in the Fairchester League (4 singles, 3 doubles, total of 10 players). Wish us luck.

YEAH HOP!
