French Exchange Visit to New Haven

From April 13–18, 2024, Hopkins was host to a delegation of 13 students and 2 teachers from the Lycee Louis-Pasteur school in Avignon, France, a New Haven sister city.

During their visit, the group stayed with host Hopkins families, attended classes with their host students, took a walking tour of the Maltby Lakes, and enjoyed a day in downtown New Haven for activities like a scavenger hunt, a tour of Yale, and a visit with Mayor Elicker at City Hall.

Student Asher J. '25 wrote a story for the New Haven Independent about his exchange students visiting the Cherry Blossom Festival in Wooster Square last weekend. Read Asher's article here

Hopkins has collaborated with the Lycee Louis-Pasteur in Avignon (a New Haven sister city), France, since 2018. Our French teachers have used this relationship to give Hopkins students the opportunity to learn more experientially by communicating with a peer from France; and so our students have exchanged videos and emails in French with their peers in Avignon, who are learning English. Last year, Sarah du Plessis and John Lytle led a Hopkins group to Avignon, where our students met their French friends in person and were entertained by them in homestays and at the Lycee.
