Despite the temperatures remaining in the 40s for our match, The sun was out and the wind was mild for our outing versus Kent. The boys began with the doubles round and Max and Aidan quickly took the lead and did not let go. Gray and Shi were also doing well but unfortunately one of their opponents had to retire due to injury, at which point our #1 doubles team of Jake and Bryan exited their match in order to begin the singles round.
Our boys shined in the singles round overall against tough competitors. Aidan took his strong shotmaking from doubles into his individual match and came out on top early, as did Gray, who played confidently with good shotmaking. Max was a solid force and clinched the match for us with strong serves and a flawless attack game. Although Jake went head to head with his Kent Lion in the first, his opponent demonstrated great court coverage throughout and ultimately prevailed.
Our last two matches ended in our favor but required all of the faculties of Advay and Eric. Both players struggled in their first sets but began to find their rhythm and were able to dictate the points in the second sets, with Eric playing an excellent tiebreaker.
No rest for our new goats, however, as we travel down to SUNY Purchase tomorrow to face our FAA rival Rye. We are looking forward to playing the 4 singles, 3 doubles format tomorrow and hope for a sunny day.
