Global Learning

Hopkins seeks to nurture students as global citizens possessing
the cultural knowledge, awareness, and sensitivity to fully embrace and navigate the larger world.
Hopkins encourages students to grow as global citizens and has sponsored foreign trips for many years. School Year Abroad continues to be an attractive option for students interested in studying abroad for a semester or year.

Recently, Hopkins has sought to cultivate "global neighborhoods" in communities abroad, many of which are New Haven Sister Cities: Amalfi, Italy; Avignon, France; and Changsha, China.

These global neighborhoods are welcoming places where Hopkins students can learn about a different culture, build friendships with peers from a local school, and develop their language fluency through immersion.

The core of each of these global neighborhoods is a partnership between Hopkins and a secondary school or community organization. Hopkins students connect and work with partner school students in the context of their language classes several times during the academic year. In March, student groups visit partner schools and enjoy the hospitality of host students and their families. In turn, students from the partner schools visit us and stay with Hopkins host families.
