Hopkins stumbles as they lose to Riverdale

The Hilltoppers couldn’t get much going in a disappointing loss this weekend, falling to Riverdale 46-7.  This was Hopkins worst game of the season and one they will hope to quickly forget.

Riverdale opened the game intercepting Hopkins QB and putting together a 3 play scoring drive.  The next 2 Hopkins drives would end the same way, with Riverdale’s defensive backs picking off the pass for the intended receiver.  Down 14-0, Hopkins’ Corey Rispoli forced a fumble on the opponent’s 1 yard line and took over 1st and goal late in the first half.  Unfortunately the Hilltoppers were stopped on 4 straight plays and turned the ball over on downs.  This would happen again later in the half with Hopkins still unable to punch it in, ending the half at 34-0.

The second half was much like the first, Hopkins failing to put together key drives and Riverdale connecting on big plays.  Hopkins would get on the board late with a TD run from Doug Gilford, his first varsity touchdown of the season/career.  Hopkins will have a bye this upcoming week before facing off against Long Island Lutheran on Saturday, November 7th at home.  Come support the team as they look to rebound with a win!
