Ian Guthrie and the Junior School Star in Newest “Home on the Hill” Episode
“He helps us to remember what it’s like to have childlike wonder,” said Director of Junior School Jocelyn Garrity, one of several colleagues who speaks warmly of Ian Guthrie, a multidisciplinary teacher with a distinct ability for “meeting people where they are,” as Karolina J. ’27 remarks in Hopkins School’s fourth installment of its “Home on the Hill” video series, starring Guthrie.
Guthrie, who serves as Junior School (7th and 8th Grades at Hopkins) Head Adviser and Arts and History Instructor, is now in his 11th year at Hopkins.
The newest episode explores the Junior School community through the perspectives of Guthrie, his students, and his colleagues, highlighting the impact he has had on generations of Junior School students.
“The best part about working at Hopkins is certainly the community itself,” Guthrie said. “It is really like an extended family.”
The “Home on the Hill” series chronicles the people, places, and traditions that define the Hopkins experience. By documenting these stories, the series offers a deeper understanding of the people and communities that make the School special.
