On Friday, Oct. 2, thirty 7th graders from Ms. Audette's and Ms. Davis's 7th grade English classes journeyed to the Wethersfield Historical Society and the Webb Deane Stevens Museum in order to take their study of The Witch of Blackbird Pond to the next level.

Students participated in workshops and tours including an investigation of the historical witches of Wethersfield and recreation of an actual Witch Trial. They also learned about Colonial Medicine, creating sachets of herbs that they could take with them to address a multitude of ailments.

The group toured the Buttholph-Williams House, the home that Elizabeth George Speare used as their inspiration for the novel.  They also visited the ancient Burying ground and saw the gravestones of historical figures in the novel and learned more about Puritan traditions.

After lunch, the group traveled to Cove Park, where students had some free time to check out the last standing Cove Warehouse that dates from the novel's time, skip rocks in the cove, and admire the Connecticut River.
